New RAM AIR decal

Posted in The Gran Sport Theme on February 1st, 2010 by Stewart

I had this decal made for the Ram Air Deflector.

If Buick Motorsports had made a Buick Roadmaster Gran Sport…

And, if the Roadmaster GS was given RAM AIR…

I am sure it would have had a decal of some sort advertising that option.

It is the perfect size.

(This decal replaces a similar but much smaller one.)

It came out great!

Thanks Luis!

Custom “Gran Sport” Floor Mats

In keeping with the Gran Sport Theme for this project…

I had some custom fit embroidered floor mats made.

These match the Buick’s theme quite nicely.

How To – RAM AIR Emblems

Posted in The Gran Sport Theme on January 23rd, 2010 by Stewart

Ram Air.

It’s been a part of GM automotive performance for decades.

Adding the RAISS Ram Air Intake to my RoadMonster is still one of my favorite modifications.

In keeping with the Gran Sport Theme, I thought it would be nice to have some RAM AIR emblems on the car that would match the GRAN SPORT emblems.

I had a set of expensive custom made RAM AIR emblems made, but they didn’t look good.  I’ve looked for suitable RAM AIR emblems, but never found any that I liked…

However, years ago, I did find that Pontiac had made emblems that looked nice, but they read “RAM AIR V6″.

I bought a couple of sets of these RAM AIR V6 emblems, and thought I’d give modifying them a try.

The only NOS emblems that I could find were metallic orange in color…

No problem.  I just needed the emblems.

What I did was cut off the “V6″ portion of the emblem.  Then I shaped the “R” in the word “AIR” so it looked like the emblem was made without the “V6″ part of the emblem.

The next step was to send off the newly modified emblems to my pinstriper Tim aka Brodude.

I sent Tim the modified emblems and a brand new GRAN SPORT emblem so he could match the color of the GRAN SPORT emblem perfectly.

Tim did an excellent job as usual.  The paint is a PERFECT match.

The end result are a pair of RAM AIR badges that look like a factory emblem.  They match all the GRAN SPORT emblems on the car.

I am very happy with the outcome.

The emblems on the car allow me to keep with the Factory Could Have Built It Theme, while still staying relatively subtle with the exterior modifications…

Badge Your Ride – Custom Auto Emblems

Posted in The Gran Sport Theme on January 20th, 2010 by Stewart

Want custom badges for your car?

Want your car to have emblems that are unique, but look OEM?

I did.

I found this site:

badgeyourride.com

I added ROADMONSTER and LT1 5.7 badges to the trunk lid.

These are really high quality.   They come in two different sizes.

Their website is helpful too.

You can see what your emblem will look like here:

http://www.badgeyourride.com/ordering.html

The ordering page also shows you the two different size / font options.

I do get a lot of compliments on these emblems.

Here is a helpful hint:

To install these, or any other emblems, measure and mark where you want the new emblems with masking tape.

I laid down a line of tape for the bottom of the letters to line up with, and also a tape line on the left, so I knew where to start the emblem.

If you measure carefully, and make sure your tape lines are level, you will have perfectly centered and level emblems!

Also, if you need to remove an old emblem that is held on by foam tape, a plastic putty knife works great.  Heat the old emblem up with a hair dryer, work slowly, and it won’t scratch your paint.

I have referred dozens of people to Badge Your Ride, and they’ve all reported excellent results.

The “1-OF-1″ Theme Continues…

Posted in The Gran Sport Theme on January 19th, 2010 by Stewart

I had some custom plaques made for the RoadMonster.

I was influenced by cars like the SLP Firehawk that had specific SLP manufacturer data plates or plaques added.

Back in my world of make believe, when Buick Motorsports built a Roadmaster Gran Sport, I think they might have made custom badges like this:

These badges read:

“Buick Motorsports Division – Prototype:  Number 1 of 001″.

I have one on the header panel by the hood latch & one on the dash.

I had them made in two sizes.

These match the fuel pressure gauge plate:

These are all the same brushed metal plates.  All the same black font.  Sublimated printing.

I had these made at a local trophy shop.  They do really nice work.

These tie in the license plates on the car as well:

I love it when a theme comes together!

O-Z Racing Emblem

Posted in The Gran Sport Theme on January 18th, 2010 by Stewart

Emblems.

Usually I delete them.  On almost every project car I’ve ever had, I have deleted most, if not all of the emblems.

I think cleaner is better.

This project is different.  I like emblems on this car.

I think the car would not look right without the Gran Sport, GS, LT1, and ROADMONSTER emblems.

For THIS project, the emblems are needed, in my opinion.

My biggest problem is making sure that I don’t over do it.

As a result, I end up taking off older emblems, to make room for new ones.  Thank goodness for 3M foam tape!

Part of the fun of this project is choosing emblems that I feel would be consistent in my world of make believe, where Buick Motorsports built Roadmaster Gran Sports back in the mid nineties.  I’ve worked hard selecting emblems of the correct vintage and look. I’ve modified some, and custom ordered others.  When I couldn’t find the correct color, I had my pinstriping guy paint them.

In addition, I am really proud of my wheel choice.  The O-Z Nova ST’s look like Buick Motorsports just might have chosen them for this car…

Which brings me to the point of this post.

This emblem right here:

I found an eBay vendor who was selling O-Z Racing emblems.

I’ve got several permanent searches on eBay for O-Z Racing products.  That’s how I found the wheels on my car.  I look at a lot of O-Z Racing products and auctions on a weekly basis.  This emblem is not something I had seen before, or since.

Decals and patches:  easy to find.

Emblems:  not so much…

This badge is about 1.5″ wide, and about an .75″ tall.  I found the perfect place on the dash for it.  Remember those Buick Motorsports guys might have set up the RM just like the Mitsubishi guys did when they built the O-Z Racing Edition Lancer…

Anyway, I consider this a really good find.  I love searching and finding new ways to carry out the Gran Sport Theme.

Thanks for looking!

LT1 Specifications Plate

Posted in The Gran Sport Theme on January 17th, 2010 by Stewart

I installed one of these Corvette LT1 Engine Specfications Plates on the dash of the RM years ago.

I feel that it fits the car’s theme nicely.  They are made out of aluminum, are self adhesive, and look really nice.

These plates fit the ashtray cover on Y-Bodies.  They are still available at places like Ecklers.

Since we are on the topic of Ecklers, I have purchased many things for the RM there:

The chrome AC Check Valve Covers, AC Drier Cap / Cover, and the Valve Cover Bolts are a few of my favorite Ecklers purchases.

I have found Ecklers to have good products and good customer service.

Not all of the Corvette fluid caps are the same as the B-Body, so check for fitment first.

Gran Touring Suspension Dash Emblem

Posted in The Gran Sport Theme on January 16th, 2010 by Stewart

After the suspension rebuild and upgrade…

I didn’t think the “Dynaride” dash emblem was appropriate.

I found this NOS emblem:

Much better than Dynaride IMHO.

RoadMonster emblem.

The other badge I added on the driver’s side of the dash is this one:

This was made by a jeweler in Athens, Greece.  He specializes in automotive accessories.  It is made of sterling silver.

He was really nice to work with.  He had all kinds of European brand car logos, but not the Buick Tri-Shield.  He went out of his to come up with the Buick logo at my request.

It’s really a nice piece of automotive jewelry.

Custom Aluminum Interior Parts

Posted in The Gran Sport Theme on January 16th, 2010 by Stewart

I’ve got quite a few custom made aluminum interior parts.

Here are my Door Pulls made by Burak at Ondula Performance Inc.

It’s a set of four pulls that replace the stock rubber pulls.

These are an EXACT fit!  See Links for Burak’s contact info.

Next up we have the Turn Signal Switch Cover, Tilt Lever, and Hazard Button.  Burak also made the tilt lever and hazard button.

Billet Coat Hooks by Ondula Performance were also added.  These show the Impala SS version.

Mine look the same, but are plain.

Burak also made a set of Billet Radio Knobs for me.  I sent him my stock knobs, and back came these billet beauties!

Also, below you can see my MBA Billet Aluminum Pedals.  These pedals were designed for the B-Body pedals, and are an exact fit to the stock assemblies.  Very high quality.  Unfortunately, MBA has gone out of business…

Finally, is a pair of Seat Belt Anchor Covers engraved the the Buick Tri-Shield Logo.

These were made by Greg at All Dimensions Manufacturing.  See Links for Greg’s contact info.

There you have it.

Just a bunch of high quality custom made aluminum parts.
